Kindergarten through 8th Grade
Admission Policy
Students seeking admission to St. Rose of Lima School must submit all academic records, including
standardized test scores (where it applies) prior
to filing an application. Students entering Kindergarten or 1st grade must participate in the screening process
designed by St. Rose. Students must
demonstrate readiness and ability to embrace our program.

Class Size Policy
Kindergarten is generally limited to 25 pupils per class; grades 1 - 8 is generally limited to 30 pupils per class.
The Pastor and Principal reserve the right to
increase class size of circumstances necessitate it.

Testing
For purposes of pupil and curriculum evaluation, a formal standardized testing program is implemented. The
following New York State tests are administered to:
Grade 4: Science, Language Arts and Math
Grade 5: Social Studies
Grade 8: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills, as prescribed by the Diocese of Rockville Centre, is annually administered in the fall to pupils in Grades 2 - 7. The Cognitive Abilities Test required by the diocese is administered to pupils Grades
1 in the spring and to grades 4 and 7 in the fall. At the Principals discretion, pupils completing Kindergarten and
first grade take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in the spring. Required by law, pupils entering Kindergarten must
participate in an educational screening process. The school cannot guarantee make-up tests in a child's absence.

National Junior Honor Society
Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is limited to pupils in grades 7 and 8 who have met the
requirements in the scholarship, service, citizenship, character and leadership as set forth by the society and our
school. Guidelines are under separate cover and are distributed to all pupils at the completion of grade 6.

Promotion and Graduation Policy
In an effort to maintain academic excellence, a diploma will be awarded to pupils in Grade 8 upon the successful
completion of an academic course of study. In order to be placed into the next grade level a passing grade for
pupils in grades 4 - 7 must be achieved in the major subject areas. This includes Spanish for grades 6, 7 and 8.
